Reading order
-
1. Fourth Wing
Book 1
Violet is fragile and was supposed to be a scribe. Instead she's at a war college where cadets push each other off parapets and the dragons pick who lives. Fast, bingeable and meaner than the cover suggests.
- Dragons
- Academies and War Colleges
- Enemies to Lovers
- Forced Proximity
Content warnings
Graphic violence, Murder, War, Death of a loved one
-
2. Iron Flame
Book 2
Longer, messier and heavier on the conspiracy than Fourth Wing. The interrogation chapters are rough. That ending, though.
- Dragons
- Academies and War Colleges
- Forced Proximity
- Court Intrigue
Content warnings
Graphic violence, Torture, War, Death of a loved one
-
3. Onyx Storm
Book 3
Takes the story off the continent and into a lot of new lore. Less spice than the first two and more road-trip-with-dragons.
- Dragons
- Found Family
- Academies and War Colleges
Content warnings
War, Graphic violence, Death of a loved one
-
4. Threshing Day
Book 3.5
Not book four. It's thirteen short stories about the riders and their dragons, including one from Xaden. Good for tiding you over, but don't expect the main plot to move.
- Dragons
- Academies and War Colleges
- Found Family
Content warnings
Graphic violence, War, Death of a loved one
